Centuries ago, in the Middle Atlas Mountains and the valleys of southern Morocco, Berber women lived in harmony with nature. They knew the secrets of plants and used them to heal, nourish... and enhance their beauty. Among these treasures, one bright red flower stood out: the wild poppy.
They harvested its delicate petals in spring, dried them in the shade to preserve their color and virtues, then mixed them with pomegranate peel . Sometimes they added saffron , a precious spice, to enhance its color and benefits.
Why did they use it?
- For natural beauty: They made it into a soft, hydrating, and radiant makeup. A touch on the lips, a little on the cheeks—and voilà, a radiant face, without any chemicals.
- For feminine rituals: The Aker Fassi was an essential part of the bride's trousseau , used during the traditional hammam , religious festivals , and special occasions such as Eid.
- To pass on knowledge: Each mother taught her daughter how to prepare the paste, how to apply it, and how to make it an ally of their femininity.
